swimming gala

Thursday 5th June 2008
9am - noon

The Malden Centre, New Malden
MAP

Organiser : Dave Wright

This year's Swimfest will be held tomorrow, June 5th. Please arrange to arrive promptly at 9am. Eighteen schools will compete in four groups.

This year, any reserves you may wish to bring are guaranteed a swim in a non-scoring event as well as participation in the 'splash-around' at the end. There will once again be an adult race, with valuable(ish) prizes for the best lady and gent!

Each year some children are missed off the programme swimmers' list, so once again I will make available after the event individual revised programme inserts with additions or corrections as necessary for those that desire a keepsake. If one of your swimmers has been missed or name misspelled, please bring this to my attention on the day and I will arrange for a corrected insert to be sent to your school.

Each school will compete in 8 scoring races: 1 x Freestyle, 1 x Breaststroke, 1 x Backstroke, 4 x Relay for each gender.
A child can compete in ONE style race and MAY also swim in the relay: this means your team will consist of between 4 and 7 swimmers of each gender giving a team minimum of 8 different swimmers and a maximum of 14, although you may bring reserves who will be offered a swim in a non-scoring race, ensuring every child participates

RULES
As with all KPSSA events, the overriding object is to encourage primary school children's enjoyment of sport; in exceptional circumstances any rules may be moderated by the organisers to fulfil this aim. Competitiveness plays a part, but not at the expense of fun, fairness or participation.

  1. There are four classes: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle and Relay
  2. All competant KS2 pupils are eligible
  3. A swimmer may enter one individual style and/or the relay
  4. Boys and girls compete separately in each class
  5. Individual races are over one length of 25 metres
  6. Relays are of four swimmers, each swimming one length
  7. All races start from the deeper south side of the pool
  8. The lanes are numbered from the entrance - Lane 1 is nearest to the spectators
  9. Swimmers may dive in or start in the pool, except during the relay changeover on the shallow north side, where diving is not permitted and swimmers wait in the water
  10. Schools are grouped according to size, based on KS2 current figures published by the Borough
  11. Points: First 1 pt, Second 2 pts, Third 3 pts and so on - highest position is team with lowest points
  12. Relay races score double points
  13. Additional events not on the schedule are for fun only and do not score points
  14. Swimmers must remain in the water at the end of each individual race until directed
  15. The referee's decision is final and must be immediately respected
  16. Spectators are requested to remain quiet for the start of each race
  17. Any adult who causes nuisance may be pushed in the pool by the organisers
