Prior to D-Day, Bushy Park acted at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force ("SHAEF".) General Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander, lived on Kingston Hill at Telegraph Cottage in Kingston . Kingston became a town full of US armed forces personnel, which did cause some tension with the locals.
