Norovirus Information from Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Team
Norovirus has received a lot of publicity recently both on the television and in the newspapers. It appears that thousands of people in the UK have contracted it this ‘Winter Vomiting Disease’. It has a sudden onset and is highly infectious. Advice from NHS Direct and the Health Protection Agency is that there is no specific treatment apart from letting the illness run its course. It is important for those affected to drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

Norovirus can be spread through contact with an infected person, through contact with surfaces, or objects, that are contaminated with it. People remain highly infectious for at least 48 hours after symptoms have settled and this makes transmission very difficult to control. If you think you have contracted Norovirus it is worth being mindful of this when preparing to return to school/work. More information is available on the NHS Direct website: www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk

  • You may have been experiencing difficulties with the delete function inside SurgeMail. We believe we have now fixed this and you should now be able to delete quite happily from the list view or inside a message. No need to put off that housekeeping now! This has meant the removal of the nice icons (hopefully temporarily) but the grey buttons work perfectly well for now.

Please contact your school ICT support staff if you experience any difficulties or email us at upgrade@rbksch.org with relevant details

  • This page replaces the rudimentary design that has been in use for the past few weeks. We are very grateful to Alison Bellamy, Web Development Officer, for her help and expertise in this development. Further changes are likely over the next few months as the use of this site evolves.

Upgrade from iMail to Surgemail over Easter 2007

  1. New mail system is setup along side old system so both can be accessible at the same time. New email address remains the same as before: http://mail.rbksch.org:8383/
  2. New mail system is setup so that it is fully independent of the old in terms of connectivity to the outside world.
  3. Old mail server is set to post mail through new system in preparation for decommissioning.
  4. Nominated contacts (eg ICT Network Managers or ICT subject leaders) will not be able to create new users over the Easter holiday while the upgrade is taking place
  5. Address books for staff are copied from old system to new (but not for pupils)
  6. Forwarding information for staff is copied from old to new (but not for pupils)
  7. Mailbox size limits applied to new system for pupils only (100mb)
  8. New mail system becomes default for sending and receiving mail. All incoming mail from the outside world will be sent to the new mail system. The old system will be accessible via the address http://oldmail.rbksch.org
  9. Access is granted to new system so users can copy mail from the old system to new via Outlook. Users sitting in school using the domain rbksch.org (eg the old Imail web interace) will also be able to log on to http://oldmail.rbksch.org and forward mail to themselves using the email address:

    username@newmail

The mail will then turn up on the new system. Users will also be able to access oldwebmail from home.
  10. This is an opportunity for all users to clean out old emails, and if necessary save out attachements or important emails to the normal work server rather storing email on line. This is good housekeeping.
  11. Old server is turned off at a predetermined point during the summer term but all schools will be advised about the dates.
  12. Upgrade will take place during the Easter holiday and the new system will be live when you come back.

Any further queries should be directed to comments@rbksch.org

March 26th 2007

As part of our strategic upgrade to KingsNet we are making some interim changes to some of the KingsNet web pages over the next few days. This is in preparation for the switch from iMail (current email system) to Surgemail (new email) which is scheduled to take place over the Easter holiday.

To rationalise access to the various services which will form KingsNet in the future we will be arranging for www.rbksch.org to be the main entry point for KingsNet. We would urge all users to reset any browser bookmarks / favourites they have set up to point at KingsNet services to replace them with a link to www.rbksch.org. We believe that this will greatly simplify access to KingsNet services for all users. Please note that the rudimentary design of the interim pages will change and be developed as we bring these services on line.

Outlook email users should need to make no adjustments to their settings when the new email system comes on line. We will advise you of the exact day of change to the new email system (Surgemail) as soon as possible.
